To pee or not to pee

Toilet training is the bane of nearly every mother, and this is often magnified in Down syndrome. Thirteen years ago I did the unheard of, and attempted to potty train my daughter (then 2.5, with DS) using the one-day method. What can I say– I was naïve. The method had worked with my older children, and I didn’t know any better. I had an idea that sometime my experience would help other mothers, so I tape recorded my day (well, it stretched into several days).potty chair

Over the years the potty training pages have been some of the most popular on this website, and some of the most missed since I took the site down to rebuild it. Last night I received an email from a mom who wrote that she was hoping to potty train her child over spring break, but the pages were gone!

Well, I aim to please. I’ve reposted those pages, with slight modifications. Here you will find a description of the one-day method of toilet training. This page also explains in detail how to begin from birth to get your child ready for potty training and how to know when your child is ready. Here you will find a transcription of the tape recording I made on the day I trained Mary. Finally, here is a page of ideas from other families.
